Dr. William C. Hambleton’s Letter of 9-22-17

September 22, 2017

Dear Parents,

Yesterday I had the privilege of representing Lacordaire Academy at the Zero Emissions Summit at Scandinavia House in New York City.  The summit coincided with the United Nations General Assembly and brought together national and international leaders in government, NGO and corporate sectors to address the issue of climate change.  In anticipation of the summit, I met with a group of students and signed the Carbon Neutral Pledge, committing to measure and reduce Lacordaire Academy’s carbon footprint in the years ahead.  One World United and Virtuous Foundation was a chief organizer of the summit, and Lacordaire has initiated a partnership with the foundation in order to collaborate on programs related to responsible global citizenship.  This initiative ties closely to our Dominican roots “seeking the unfolding revelation of God and embracing the sacredness of all creation.”

I want to commend all of our middle school students who participated in the elections for student body officers.  I was impressed with the creativity and energy that all of the candidates invested in their campaigns.  Congratulations to our newly elected officers:  7th Grade Representatives:  Ben Marra, Diego Pasini, Tristen Whitworth, Iliana Colie, Gabriella Mazal and Misha Parikh.  8th Grade Officers: Kevin Whitworth, President, Charlotte Prunty, Vice President and Brandon Schimmel, Secretary.  Special thank to Mrs. Roche for organizing the election process.

Please be sure to join us for Back to School Night this Thursday, September 28.  It is an important opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and hear about some of the exciting things that are happening at school.  The event will begin at 6:00 pm in the gymnasium, followed by opportunities to visit classrooms.  We look forward to seeing you!

Earlier this week, I was visited by an officer of the Montclair Police Department who expressed some concerns about traffic during our drop-off and pick-up.  He asked me to remind our parents  not to park or wait along the yellow curbs on Park Street.  Additionally, please use the cross walk if you cross the street with your child to or from the east side of Park Street.  These procedures are intended to keep all of our students safe.  Thank you for your attention to them.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

William C. Hambleton, Ed.D.
