Lacordaire Graduates Class of 2018

The Upper School Class of 2018.

The Academy has felt a celebratory air these last few weeks, as we approached the bittersweet moment of goodbye for our Seniors and 8th graders. On Friday, June 1st, the graduating 12th graders celebrated their Baccalaureate Mass at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell, in preparation for their commencement exercises back at the Academy on the morning of June 2nd. Commencement this year featured the Academy’s retiring Admissions Director, Joan Hearst, as speaker, and Mrs. Hearst shared her many pearls of wisdom with the ladies she departed Laco with.

Mrs. Joan Hearst retired from her position as Admissions Director this year, but first left the Class of ’18 some words of wisdom.

The Class of 2018 also heard remarks from their Salutatorian, Amelia Lake, and Valedictorian, Emily Edwards, both of whom echoed the values of hard work and perseverance the Academy instilled in them.

With Upper School Commencement completed, the Academy turned its focus to the Middle School graduating class, who passed on their words of wisdom to the rising 8th graders at the annual 8th Grade Luncheon on Monday, June 4th. As a particular treat, the Lacordaire “Lifers,” students who joined the Academy in Pre-K and have stayed through the end of Middle School, cut the celebratory cake at the end of the Luncheon.

Lacordaire “Lifers” (L-R) Matthew DeSopo, Maria Gagliano, Larry Corbo, and Drew Boyce cut the celebratory cake at the annual 8th Grade Luncheon.

Tuesday, June 5th brought the Academy back to the Sisters of St. Dominic’s Motherhouse, where we celebrated the graduating 8th grade’s Commencement exercises.

The Middle School Class of 2018.

This year, the Middle School’s Commencement Speaker was Ryan Thornton, a Middle School alum who went on to great success at St. Peter’s Prep and Fordham University. Mr. Thornton spoke of how the Academy prepared him for the rigors of his other alma maters, and assured the graduates that they, too, had been prepared for life after Laco. The Commencement concluded with remarks from the 8th grade Salutatorian, Kevin Whitworth, and Valedictorian, Drew Boyce.

We here at the Academy wish all of our graduates well! We know there are many successes in store for the future between you all and look forward to seeing where your journeys take you. Congratulations to the Class of 2018!
