Middle School Shakespeare Players Perform “The Taming of the Shrew”

7th Graders Adair Connor, Jack Rochkind, Bryce Rhodeman, and Benedict Marra provided hilarious performances that helped to make the production a memorable one.

The 7th and and 8th grade members of the Middle School Shakespeare Players have been working since February to present The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare. The show, a tale looking at the power dynamic between males and females in the time of Shakespeare, went up on May 8th for two shows.

7th Grader Iliana Colie and 8th Grader Kevin Whitworth played the roles of Katherine and Petruchio, at-odds husband and wife.

All of the Lacordaire Academy Middle School students studied the play in their Language Arts classes, but several students went the extra mile to actually participate in its performance. Led by Ms. Coleman and Mr. Flanagan, the students memorized their lines and found blocking that felt natural and real on the stage.

7th Graders Diego Pasini and Misha Parikh, with 8th grader Matthew DeSopo, took the roles of Luncentio, Bianca, and Hortensio, setting up a hilarious love triangle for the comedy.

The students did a marvelous job mastering the sometimes difficult Shakespearean language and successfully conveying it to an audience that, for some, had never seen or read Shakespeare before. The show received spectacular reviews from students, teachers, and parents alike and all those who participated should be very proud of their work!

The stage crew joined the cast on stage for the final bow.
