On Monday, April 9th, the Academy returned from Easter Break to Spirit Week, which was kicked off with Pajama Day! The students also began the month-long celebration of National Poetry Month. Students from Mr. Flanagan’s Creative Writing class read selections of their poetry and prose during a “coffeehouse” setting, which the school will hold every Monday in April.
Seniors Amaya Romero, Mirembe Fisher, Janiece Pacheco, Amelia Lake, and Monica Rei Dos Santos read from their final portfolios, ranging in genre from free verse poetry to short stories and nonfiction personal narratives. The entire Upper School attended and showed their appreciation for the strength of voice these readers showed is here at the Academy.
Next Monday, the rest of the Creative Writing class will read from their work, before the mic will be open to all Upper School students on the 23rd. The readings will culminate in the launch celebration of the student-generated literary magazine, Zephyr, which will debut at the last reading on April 30th. Here’s to the next several weeks of word-filled excitement here at Lacordaire!
