Greetings and welcome from Lacordaire Academy. If you have not visited us, please do so. You will see and experience firsthand the many reasons our parents and students have chosen Lacordaire. The Academy remains steadfast in providing a rigorous and vigorous curriculum which is rooted in the Dominican traditions of values, service, and justice. As I begin my tenth year as the Head of School, and Lacordaire Academy begins its 97th year inspiring young minds and educating tomorrow’s leaders, the Academy continues to evolve. For example, we continuously strive to refine the manner in which technology is incorporated into the classroom to deliver an interdisciplinary program of study utilizing the most effective pedagogical practices.
Our Vision Statement declares, Lacordaire Academy will be recognized as a premier private school proudly rooted in the Catholic Dominican tradition. Providing a rigorous and disciplined K-12 curriculum in a respectful and inclusive environment of spiritual, academic, athletic and aesthetic development, the Academy fosters competent and confident leaders of character. This Vision, along with our Mission Statement, provides the foundation and objective for the future. We pride ourselves in the way we provide innovative, effectual, and personal instruction; this is the core of Lacordaire’s educational experience. Our Academy students grow, learn about the world, become inspired, and develop their dreams.
This fall, our Academy will be finalizing its internal self-study as we prepare for re-accreditation by the Middle States Association. We began last year gathering data and completing surveys from all of our constituents in order to formalize our objectives. Our objectives, derived from Academy-wide input, are focused on three areas: technology, Math, and infrastructure to accommodate our growing enrollment, curriculum and programs. By mid-November, we will have our strategies and action plans complete. No doubt this intensive, exciting and important process will guide the Academy in support of its mission and vision for the next 10 years. Our goal remains to provide instruction that stimulates all cognitive functions and inspires students to explore and enjoy their entire educational process.
The seamless PreK-12 curriculum, led by our superb Academy staff; Upper, Middle and Lower School coordinators; and talented faculty, encompasses academics, fine and performing arts, community service, and athletics. Our broad and comprehensive academic and extracurricular program keeps our students engaged and challenged. The rigor of our course of studies provides our students with the tools to acquire and cultivate the critical thinking and analytical skills necessary for them to be successful in each stage of their academic careers. Our leaders of tomorrow develop their talents and abilities as they take charge and lead every activity we offer—liturgies/prayer services, community service projects, clubs, sports, and fine and performing art events. Our student-centered approach allows students to take ownership of their school and its community. Many of our students participate in at least two sports, are members of several clubs, and star in one or more of our theatre productions.
The Academy’s environment, as evidenced by our latest Middle States survey results, continues to be defined as a “family.” Within our Academy, the students are comfortable with assuming risks, making mistakes, and having fun…serious fun! In closing, I invite you to become part of this great community. Please visit each part of our website to gain a more in-depth understanding of Lacordaire Academy. Do not hesitate to be in touch.
