Lacordaire Academy’s Campus Ministry, in conjunction with the Montclair Salvation Army, will be gathering and organizing supplies to go into backpacks for those in need at the Salvation Army Citadel of Montclair.
Last year, we made around 80 backpacks of supplies. This year, the goal is to reach 100! In order to hit 100, we need the assistance of the entire Lacordaire community.
Last year, we ended up with a surplus of certain supplies and some donations that were not usable in the backpacks. (They were used for other community service initiatives.)
The Campus Ministry team kindly requests that you adhere to the guidelines below in order for the academy to maximize the impact it can make.
How to get involved:
Upper School attendance of the Cardboard Box City Sleepover on sept 29th 8pm-7am, donation of supplies, participation in the Salvation Army 5k Sept 30th
Middle School attendance of the Backpack packing event the night of Cardboard Box city Sept 29th 5-8pm, donations of supplies, Participation in the Salvation Army 5k Sept 30th
Lower School Donation of supplies, Participation in the Salvation Army 5k Sept 30th
How to Donate:
It is of the utmost importance that the donations follow the parameters in order for the backpacks to be useful to the recipients:
Please make sure that *all donations are travel sized* when possible and that you are donating what your grade has been selected for
Pre-K / K – Shaving Razor , Shaving Cream, Nail Clipper, Notebook, Pen, Mini Flashlight
1 / 2 – Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Travel sized first aid kit, Rain Poncho, Lip Balm
3 / 4- Deodorant, body lotion, emergency blanket, hand and foot warmers
5 / 6- Winter Hats , Shampoo, Small Towel
7 / 8- Winter Gloves , Soap, Dental Floss
Some of these items cannot be purchased easily from a grocery or convenience store. Last year the backing of the backpacks was made largely possible from families ordering small quantities of the more obscure items off of Amazon.
Thank you to all that are able to donate to this event. Your donations will go back to the Montclair community to help those in need. For those able to attend the conjoining events thank you for playing a role within our schools Dominican community geared towards helping those in need.
