A Special Thank You from Campus Ministry

I would like to extend a special thank you to all who contributed to this year’s food drive. The Bridges Outreach Program works 7 days a week bringing food to different locations in the area, rain or shine. The success of their program, as explained to me by one of the volunteers, is due to their consistency: No matter what, their van with food is going to show up and help those in need.

This past  Sunday, pulling up to the drop off location as usual, there was a line of 75+ people waiting for food. I have grown familiar with many of the faces and they, too, have learned to appreciate when Lacordaire comes with donations. The students who hand out the donations help lighten the mood and the fresh sandwiches and generously-packed lunch bags provide multiple days of food for recipients.

Over the last three years, we have easily made over 1000 lunches for those affected by food insecurity. This is only possible through the generosity of the Lacordaire community. To those who spent extra money on groceries to buy a donation for your child, thank you. To those that came on Saturday to help pack the lunch bags and make the sandwiches, thank you. To those who drove to buy an extra loaf of bread because we were short, thank you. To those who helped sort the food in my classroom, thank you. To all of those who helped to distribute the donations to those in need, thank you. Our school’s involvement in the success of the Bridges Outreach program is truly a community effort.

Our next food run is Sun., Feb. 18th. The remaining donations will be packed Sat., Feb 17th: All are welcome to help prepare the donations.
