Julia Rearden ’26 Makes Poetry Out Loud Championship

On Tuesday, February 5, Julia Rearden ’26 represented Lacordaire Academy at the district-level championships of Poetry Out Loud at the South Orange Performing Arts Center in South Orange, New Jersey. Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry through a dynamic recitation competition for high school students across the country. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Julia began with a powerful recitation of “To have without holding” by Marge Piercy before wowing the crowd with a stirring recitation of “No Coward Soul Is Mine” by Emily Brontë and concluding with “Weighing In” by Rhina P. Espaillat.
