Students Engineer Prosthetics; Discuss History & Progress in Support Services for Physical and Mental Disabilities

During the first semester, students in Mr. Orso’s eighth grade Honors Geometry class created prosthetic leg models that they presented to the Middle School! By examining the engineering, science, and geometry that go into constructing a prosthetic leg, our students were able to complete their finished products! In addition, they researched the history of prosthetics and the progress that has been made over time. In support of our Academy’s commitment of inclusion, Mr. Eichmann led the middle school in a discussion about Dorothea Dix’s legacy, and our middle school students went into small groups to reflect upon how we can create kinder spaces for those with physical and mental disabilities!
