Upper School Students Participate in Math Modeling Challenge

This past Saturday, four of our juniors from Mu Alpha Theta participated in the Mathworks Math Modelling Challenge, sponsored by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM.) This is a competition where over 500 participating high schools in the United States and United Kingdom are given 14 hours to come up with a solution to a real world problem.

This year’s topic was about the Housing and Homelessness Crises. Our students met at the school with Mr. Beck and Mr. Orso to work, and then finished offline. Judging is conducted over the course of the next month; however, our students finished the event with a professionally written, 27 page solution of their work! Congratulations to Isabel Pedersen, Lilina Giarrusso, Adriana Barnett and Mia Sophia Gonzalez on their amazing work!
